More shows I love to hate....
I caught the back half of a new (?) show tonight on TLC.... "Twins by Surprise." So I only saw two of the four cases, but those made me laugh, in a sad sort of way. The first delivered at home, with a "midwife" and a doula. I would bet $500 it was a lay-midwife. The second decided to do an unassisted home birth, no medical or wanna-be-medical personnel whatsoever. But don't worry, she researched on the internets, so she was practically like a doctor. The part that really made me laugh/cry was the first case when at the end, they were saying what a neat story it would be to tell their twins someday. Right. "Yeah kids, it was so awesome, we totally endangered your lives by not being prepared at all! How special is that? Love ya!" /eyeroll

Some people really make you sit and wonder, "what is it like to be you?" Hahaha. Too funny! I may have to check out this show sometime
I've never seen it but I love good crazy tLC show. thanks for the tip!
Oh my gosh, we watched parts of that too! Baah, the last lady who had twins in the bathtub, both of them breach -- BAAHH! I could hardly believe it. I'm not necessarily opposed to home births, or midwives, but, seriously people -- it's a BABY. You could take just a teensy bit more precaution!
Anyway. Whatever.
Cable has the weirdest shows. I kind of wish I had cable so I could catch up on some of them.
Oh, TLC. Remember when that used to stand for "The Learning Channel"?
I went to a birthing class, mainly to get familiar with the hospital policies & facility, and there was a know it all chick in the class that kept rolling her eyes at everything the nurse was saying...b/c since she has no medical training, but her mom says...so she knows everything.
I don't have an issue with women that choose a home birth, my SIL just did, but in knowing everything that could go wrong, I'm gonna stick with the hospital. AND I'm not going to refuse a c-section when it's medically neccessary...I've seen that way too many times, and it's the baby that suffers!
I want to clarify, I really don't have a problem with homebirths... my problem comes when the "midwife" has no medical training or certification. I take issue with lay-midwives. It's a personal prejudice I guess.
What makes me laugh is when people say having a natural birth is going to help them bond with their baby because they know the pain and sacrifice that it took to bring them into the world. THAT always makes me laugh. Pain medication or NOT the kid is going to make it. And second, you'll bond no matter what. I'd rather bond and be without pain then bond and be in pain. Just sayin.
Not knockin' on anyone who does that. But that reasoning is just silly to me.
